So today we have a little electrical tool. For less than 3 bucks, it can save you from having to call out an electrician. Do you have a space that has a light socket but you need an outlet also? You are probably saying “why would I need an outlet where there is only a lightbulb”? Well, many times, home builders install minimal lighting and electrical sockets. In places like: closets, attics, basements and even some garages. Usually there is just one light bulb socket in the center of a space. Maybe you want task lighting over a work bench next to the wall or add some fluorescent lights in a dimly lit garage. It is so easy. You can remove the light bulb in the center of the room, screw this handy tool in and plug in your new light and still have a socket for the original lightbulb. They even make a one with two outlets (see my photo below). Also, this electrical tool is usually rated for outside use making it handy for hanging Christmas or party lights. Keep in mind this is for extra lighting or a light load device not heavy load equipment like heaters, machines, tools, appliances, etc.
What tool have you found handy lately?
HAVE USED THESE FOR YEARS. FOUND A PORCH LIGHT THAT HAS A BUILT IN PLUG ON THE OUT SIDE OF IT, THAT INCLUDES A SAFETY BREAKER ON IT., NOW I DON’T HAVE TO TAKE THE COVER OFF AND USE THE NEW TOOL YOU FOUND FOR MY CHRISTMAS LIGHTS. BUT DO HAVE ON IN A BED ROOM LIGHT..

I know they have been around forever but lots of people don’t think about using them. I used them at the SV prom to get power to the string lights on the ceiling of the dance area. Kevin has used them in garages and powered fluorescent work shop lights. Thanks for the comment Grace
