Aaaawwww, GUESTS are coming! I’m sure you’ve all felt this way when you don’t know where you are going to put them. I have always wanted a guest room clean and tidy for those moments. When our daughter moved out of the nut house, happy days, we I decided her bedroom was going to be that guest room. As the holidays are upon us, I thought I’d share our guest room reveal because many of you will be feeling the same feelings of “Aaaaaw, guest are coming”. Maybe after New Years you will be thinking of ways to have a guest room for company during the holidays or if you’re really crazy whip one up in the next few weeks for this year (talk about a stress-er).
About 4 months after our daughter moved out I started clearing the stuff she left behind and all other things that had grown legs and walked in there. I was in the middle of this 2 month process when the news came: “the Son” and his wonderful wife were coming to visit in a month. Some may call it a deadline but I call it MOTIVATION!!! Even “the One Room Challenge” in the blog-a-sphere has 6 weeks to makeover a room and most of the participants hire professionals to do the tough stuff. I’m doing most of mine. Okay, yah, with a little nagging I got some professional help from the poor Hubby, (hubby is the professional). But I was really motivated! And yeah, the house became a disaster in the process.
vision
The house is going to have a theme so it flows. The theme or style isn’t like Tuscan, beach or mountain cabin, you know theme-y or locked into a style or era. It’s more like a feeling. Cozy, friendly, eclectic, eccentric, well-loved are some of the adjectives. There is a big push right now in decorating circles called “the un-decorated”. It’s hard to pin down but you know it when you see it. It’s about surrounding yourself with things you love no matter what style or era it comes from. I think with this old house, this trend works. I want it to look like we have lived here forever and collected things that make us happy, “Hoarder theme” with a little editing. 😉 So with this in mind the guest room has a lot of this look, but room for the guest stuff while they are staying with us.

This is the pile of stuff collected that will go in the guest room. I did not use everything but I think it is a good idea to keep everything together, so if something isn’t working you can replace it before you load the room. Most of the stuff came from “shopping the house”.

I like your sharing that you put together items that you wanted to incorporate into the space. This is how I start with a room. When we put together items that have the feel we want in the room they all usually find a place somewhere or another. It is a great starting point. YOu did a great job on this room and the peach bedspread gave an extra dimension that made the room have a happy vibe. Good job.
